Do-It-Yourself Auto Repair Nightmare: Mini-Cooper Radio Installation

by | Sep 30, 2019 | Car Problems & Repairs, Industry-Wide Topics

Unless you’re are a certified automotive technician, the era of servicing and making repairs to your car on your own are over. Today’s vehicles are just too complex for DIYing. A good case in point is a Mini Cooper that came into BA Auto Care recently for service with a wide array of strange electrical problems. In fact, there were so many electrical issues that our experienced auto techs hardly knew where to start. That is, until we read the comments from the customer in answer to the question: “Have there been any recent repairs to the electrical system?” The customer answered: “Not really, but I did install a radio!”

Oh my! What a mess! When our auto tech, Ben, removed the radio he discovered a wiring nightmare! (See photos). Some very important wires that carry information from the Mini Cooper’s onboard computers had all been cut! It took us many hours to fix all the issues! What should have been a simple radio installation by a certified tech became a major electrical system repair.
