Preventing Falls in the Auto Shop and At Home

by Brian England on Tue, Apr 10, 2018

This is the second article in a series we are producing entitled "Looking Out For You and Your Car."

At BA Auto Care we are all about prevention.  We encourage all of our customers to practice preventive maintenance on their vehicles, and we put quality control processes in place to prevent mistakes. But our prevention efforts don't stop at cars.Having a safe working environment for our employees is just as important as doing a job right the first time. For two decades, back in the shop, we have used a simple reusable 2’ by 2’ mat to soak up spills and reduce the chance of falls. We also keep our work bays clean. Not only does this "look nice," but what's more important is that it helps to prevent falls. Taking steps to ensure a safer workplace makes good business sense because it means our work force stays healthy and our workman’s compensation rates stay low. Having a staff of reliable, healthy employees means we can provide you with affordable quality automotive service and repair.

Are You Prepared For a "Mental Health First Aid" Emergency?

by Brian England on Tue, Mar 27, 2018

This is the first article in a series we are producing entitled "Looking Out For You and Your Car."

To provide BA Auto Care customers with the most efficient and affordable service, we spend a great deal of money on equipment and software. We know that having the right technical resources is critical to efficiently delivering high-quality service, but we also know that without great employees, all that equipment and software wouldn't translate to much. That's why we also invest in our most important resource, our employees. We know that a safe, healthy work environment, good wages and benefits are critical to employee job satisfaction. These factors play a huge role in employee happiness and performance.

Like many other businesses, on the safety front, we have processes in place to promote workplace safety, and have a first aid kit around to ensure that if there is an accident or mishap on the job, we can take quick action. But what if the problem isn't related to physical health or trauma?  What if it's mental health?

Intermittent Auto Warning Lights + Misfires - Not As Easy As 1, 2, 3...

by Brian England on Thu, Mar 15, 2018

Solving intermittent car problems can be challenging for both the customer and the auto mechanic. A new customer came into BA Auto Care and described this series of problems:

  • The check engine warning light came on intermittently.
  • The transmission warning light came on intermittently.
  • The engine misfired in cold weather.

We documented the problems on the job ticket, talked to the customer about how we would approach the diagnostic work, and provided an approximate cost.

Our next step was to road test the car. As often happens with intermittent issues, we were unable to reproduce the issues.  No misfires occurred and no warning lights came on.

What Do Dentists and Auto Repair Centers Have in Common

by Brian England on Wed, Feb 21, 2018

Recently, one of my teeth broke. I put off making an appointment for a week or so because the dentist is not my favorite place to go. I was not looking forward to having a root canal or a cap.

Anyway, it turned out that Dr. Katkow. the dentist we have used for years, could repair the tooth! Within an hour my tooth was fixed!

Make Sure You Discuss These 5 Key Items When Your Car Is In for Servicing or Repairs

by Dorothy George on Wed, Feb 07, 2018

So, you’ve made an appointment to have your car serviced. What information do you want to make sure you cover with your auto service advisor? And conversely, what do you want to make sure that your auto repair shop communicates to you?

Some customers, new to BA Auto Care, tell us that negative experiences elsewhere are what sent them hunting for a new auto repair shop to perform their vehicle maintenance and repairs. As can occur in many relationships, communication issues are often a factor in contributing to those bad experiences. A shop may over-sell what’s actually needed, causing extra expense. A shop may provide too little information for a customer to make a well-informed decision about whether or when to invest in a needed repair. Or, the customer may not understand the work being performed on the vehicle.
